Let him. Noone is scared of Iran's military. I'm pretty sure its very common knowledge that there are only about 2-3 forces that even come close to matching the might of the USAF.

Agree, Iran itself cannot beat the USA in a war of weapons but what if Russia joined them? And then China. Not to mention the cost.

This is probably them trying to save face. Make a show of aggression, limit the damage so lessen the likeliness of a response, threaten to escalate if any response.

Both sides get to walk away and stop the escalation. Looks like a "win" for the US -- Killing a top general and no real response -- Looks like a "win" for Iran as they destroy a base..
