Sorry, but retold stories written down as second hand accounts some 10-20 years after the death of the person described aren't exactly noted for their accuracy or validity. My uncle always talks about the shark he speared while diving, and it grows 20 lbs every couple years when he repeats the story.
If folks want to follow some of the moral teachings and have some feel good stories, that's fine. But to believe without question that it is true is absurd and in some cases dangerous.
