Every other president going back past Regan has given a press conference or SOTU at this point in their presidency. They have zero confidence putting him in front of a live camera, answering organic questions, & rightfully so.

What do you want him to say? He wasn't suppose to be president. He's shocked too.

That's what i'd expect him to say:

And I learned that, uh, it makes a difference. This was the diving board area, and I was one of the guards. And they weren't allowed to it was a three meter board. If you fell off sideways you landed on the damn the darn cement over there.

And Corn Pop was a bad dude. And he ran a bunch of bad boys. And I did and back in those days and to show you how things have changed, one of the things you had to use, if you used pomade in your hair you had to wear a bathing cap.

And he was up on the board wouldn't listen to me, I said HEY ESTHER! YOU! OFF THE BOARD! OR I'LL COME UP AND DRAG YOU OFF!

Well he came off, and he said, "I'll meet you outside."

My car, this was mostly, these were all public housing behind you. My car, there was a gate out here. I parked my car outside the gate. And I, he said, "I'll be waitin' for you."

He was waitin' for me with three guys with straight razors. NOT A JOKE!

There was a guy named Bill Wrightmouse, the only white guy and he did ALL the pools, he was the mechanic.

And I said what am I gonna do? And he said, "Come down here in the basement. Where mechanics where where all the pool filter is."

You know the chain? There used to be a chain went across the deep end. And he cut off a six foot lump of chain he folded it up he said, "You walk out, with that chain. And you walk to the car and you say, 'you may cut me man, but I'm gonna wrap this chain around your head.'"

I said you're kidding me. He said, "No if you don't, don't come back." AND HE WAS RIGHT!

So I walked out with the chain. And I walked up to my car. And they had in those days used to remember the straight razor you'd bang'em on the curb get'em rusty put'em in a rain barrel get'em rusty. And I looked at'em.

But I was smart, then. I said, first of all I said when I tell you get off the board you get off the board I'll kick you out again but I shouldn't have called you Esther Williams. I apologize for that. I apologized but I didn't know if that apology was going to work. He said, "YOU APOLOGIZING TO ME?"

I said I apologize not for throwing you out, but I apologize for what I said, and he said, "OK" closed the straight razor and my heart began to beat again.

Biden says his preference is to not to remove the filabuster. Hopefully that means he still supports reform or his presidency is DOA for everything but budget reconciliation

It doesn't matter what Biden thinks, tbh. Manchin will decide, and he is blaming Democrats right now for refusing to reach across the aisle.

Manchin also said that he supports making the filibuster more painful for the minority. I don't see why we shouldn't move the filibuster back to what it was prior to the 70s. Yes, it will benefit Republicans more because ALL Senate business would stop but it would make national news every time the filibuster was used which is a good thing.

I want a filibuster that is strong but difficult to use. So it will be used when needed but not used so frequently that an election has no consequences.

I'm with you on that. If Ted Cruz wants to read Green Eggs and Ham until he shits himself, fine. If 41 GOP Senators want to have a marathon where they speak until they drop and nothing gets done for a month, fine. But what we have now is chicken shit with no consequences.

Dems are pushing bribery that takes money from Republican states and gives them to the worst run Democrat states.

And now the Democrats want to turn federal elections into Venezuelan show trials.

Nothing should budge until your minions in DC get real.

I am ok with this.

I'm not sure whether the Republicans even have much genuine fight in them on this. They're far more effective at the raw use of power, and they will take control in 2022-2024 and show us how its done. This is contingent of course on Trump not running again. That would be a trainwreck.

You're not making any sense.

I agree that the GOP is significantly better at using raw power because they know that there aren't consequences for their actions. I think people who pay attention to politics (basically all of us here) care much more about procedural abuse, arcane issues, etc. than the rest of the public. How many people actually CARED that Garland's SCOTUS nomination got torpedoed? How many people cared that the Dems held onto the Kavanaugh accusation until the last minute? I have a feeling that if the filibuster was eliminated COMPLETELY, 70% of the public wouldn't care at all.

If the Dems were smart, they'd push as much "popular" legislation down the throats of Republicans over the next 2 years. At the end of the day, people LIKE benefits and they don't want them taken away. Getting rid of the filibuster would benefit Democrats WAY more than Republicans.
