It seems understandable to me that they gave it to Trump. In his specific case, the tradeoff between increasing the odds of functioning in the short term and the risk of longer term liver/kidney damage clearly ends up in favor of the former.

Looking at these past few days... where Fox News is doubling down on COVID denialism, followed by the President doing the same. If Trump loses, one big reason is that the cult never held him accountable for anything. They take cues from him, they defend whatever he does, and thus he's not getting input that would influence him to adjust.

Trump could've come out of this hospital visit and stressed the need for people to take safety precautions. He could've even stressed that the country can't be shut down, but there's ways for all of us to stay safe. He could've turned it into a presidential moment. He failed... because the only input he gets are from ignorant sycophants.

At the end of the day, Trump supporters will try to blame the deep state, the fake news, illegal voting, or whatever else for his loss. But it would be more accurate to blame themselves.
