The Senate's whole purpose is to represent the majority sentiment among states, not among the people - and it's doing just that. Also note that some of these new states would represent a shift in favor of Republicans, say if upstate New York was divided from NYC, or if the rural parts of Illinois or Minnesota got into a configuration where they're not dominated by a deep-blue megacity.
