Well... this might be true, but remember that Trump only barely won in 2016 despite running against a historically toxic and divisive opponent in Clinton. Yes, if the Dems nominate Kamala Harris or someone along those lines, then the logic you mentioned might materialize again. But if they run Biden or Beto, it will be tough for Team Trump to repeat the 2016 playbook without significant adjustments.
