now she's (Roseanne) saying that she thought VJ was "Middle Eastern" ... white =/= middle eastern, she can't get her story straight and is desperately trying to salvage any part of a "career" she has left.

White is a race, black is a race, middle eastern is a race AND a place of origin. there are plenty of white middle eastern people. it seems like you're the one missing any point that doesn't fit your narrative.

If this was an isolated incident, you would have a point. But with a history of racist posts and conspiracy tweeting? no, she's racist, she got caught with her pants down and keeps changing her story instead of owning it and apologizing outright for it.

nothing about what i'm saying should suggest that roseanne isn't an anti-black racist. however in this context its obvious that she was referencing the haircut, while also being callous, reckless, and mentally ill. she doesnt like Obama, partially because he's black im sure, and was making a stupid pointless political statement on the Iran deal, because she doesn't like Obama, and doesn't seem to like Jarret for her role in that deal. she wasn't being anti-black racist towards Jarret. that's a distinction worth nothing, but not one that should have let her keep her job, nor does it absolve her from past racism. if you think she knew Val was black and called her an ape/MB hybrid we disagree, and you may think she's even more crazy than i do.

no. i think she's adding in the ME part as an attempt to take the heat off of her. i'm just factually stating that ME=/= race inherently like "white" or "black" does. you're the one who presented subjective fact as objective, then said i was missing the point. so why dont you sit on an egg and stop strawmanning me by claiming im being apologetic, when in fact im just pointing out details your biases are forcing you to discount.



"big swinging ape balls" was a much worse joke, not only more racially insensitive, but also just lacking any context. it wasn't a joke, it was an attack.

Val's haircut looks exactly like the main female protagonist from Planet of the Apes. if Roseanne wanted to make an attack on her she could have left out the "Planet of the" part. by including that as a "mixture of" she's clearly referencing something other than just ape appearance. she could have gone with Koko the gorilla or any other ape for that matter.

people who know roseanne that are fellow standup comedians, who think she should be fired, and know she's mentally ill, are where i got this take from. there's really no reason to prescribe anti-black racism in this context, elizabeth warren looks as native american as VJ looks black. none of that means roseanne isn't anti-black. its just unnecessary piling on for a justice mob that's not happy enough with running her out of hollywood.
