Tyranny of the majority is pretty dangerous stuff though. I think the founding fathers were right to implement thr electoral college to ensure every state has a reasonable say and that all walks of life in the US are represented.
Small states already get more than their fair share of over-representation in our federal government, though.
25% of the country's population is represented by 62 Senators. The electoral college is double dipping.
Additionally, it effectively emphasizes the vote in 5-6 swing states over everyone else's. So it effectively leaves many people without a voice and probably encourages a lot more people to stay home, such as Republicans in California and Democrats in Texas.
But this is just a matter of opinion.
