The point of this thread is that there are children who are being forced to read this madness.

The simplest way to make a Young Earth Creationist / Biblical Literalist's mind turn inside out is to ask them how old the pyramids are (answer: about 2000 BC) and then ask them how long ago the Genesis flood was (answer: "The Biblical data places the Flood at 2304 BC +/- 11 years." from AnswersInGenesis.com). Then ask if they can explain to you how the eight humans that survived the Genesis Flood could have repopulated the nation of Egypt AND the nation of Israel, and enmity could have formed between them such that one group would have enslaved the other in such a short period of time.

edit: And not just the Egyptians and the Israelites. We can't forget about all of the other various tribes that were present in the physical land that the nation of Israel fled to that the Israelites had to kill off in order to conquer that land.

Let's be honest here, that's not exactly a "simple" way - their reasoning capabilities are already very limited.

Another way to confuse them is to ask them if the universe is only 6,000 years old how you are able to see stars that are over 6,000 light years away...

That's their answer for everything... "god did it" , anything they can't comprehend = "god made it that way".... etc.

I work with a YEC. They really are willfully ignorant and buy into all that bullshit they read on Dr Dino and Answers in Genesis websites.

Once you determine that someone is a YEC and does not listen to rational arguments (let me guess -- they were a Question Talker, i.e. they just asked questions and didn't listen to your answers, and assumed that because they didn't know the answer that meant it was unanswerable?) you're better off not bringing it up. One of my best friend's girlfriend is also a YEC. I mentioned evolution once and never again. It's not worth it when you have to deal with people regularly.
