Marx was a fucking genius whose works were so profound the world itself changed as a result, for the better.
• While Marx called for the abolishment of private property, taxes now are progressive.
• While Marx called for the end of patriarchy, women since Marx are able to work, keep their earnings, vote, and control their reproduction.
• While Marx cried to the end of family as existed at that time, child labor is now prohibited, spousal abuse is not legal any longer, and divorce is available.
• While Marx cried for an end to religion, church is now separated from state and education is secular and available to all.
Also, being the first real social scientist is no slouch. There were only philosophers before Marx. Intellectuals before him described the world, intellectuals after him change it.
I mean, I hope you're not actually associating those things as being causally linked with Marx.
I know nothing about property tax history so I'll keep my mouth shut on that.
Women working (at least in America) have nothing to do with Marx. Neither do their voting abilities or reproductive capabilities. War, war, and racism, in that order.
Spouse abuse and divorce are direct links to women gaining the right to vote. Which, again, not a Marx thing. Child labor I know little about.
Separation of Church and State was alive and well in America before Marx was out of diapers.
Since all of these things happened before the "Red Scare" was over in America, I'm increasingly skeptical that Marx's policies had anything to do with them locally. I'll readily admit my international ignorance on the subject, however.
