did you just compare the density of an entire state with a single city?
btw, the pop density in San Francisco is not much lower than that of NYC, and the Bay Area and LA agglomerations have a comparable population size to NYC.

similarly, upstate New York also has sparsely populated, rural places, just like Cali. none of these minor differences can explain the vast difference in coronavirus outcome between CA and NY.

We were the first state to shut down. LA and SF's mayor took this much more seriously than de Blasio did and that saved lives.

Still a difference, but not even by a factor of 2, let alone 4. And not enough that it could explain the difference between tens of thousands of corona death vs only a handful.

Would have to compare poverty and promiscuity spots, public transport rate, foreign activity, climat (direct sun is actually destroying the virus), containment dates...
