Homophobic preacher Steven Anderson will not be allowed to enter the Netherlands as part of a speaking tour later this month.

Gay rights campaign organisation COC, MPs from across the spectrum and Amsterdam’s mayor, Femke Halsema, all urged the government to block Steven Anderson after he announced his plan to speak in the capital on May 23.

Junior justice minister Mark Harbers said on Wednesday that measures would be taken to stop Anderson at the border, though he did not specify what these were.

Anderson has been banned from other countries, including the UK, South Africa and Botswana, for saying that gay people should be put to death. In 2016 he called the death of 50 people in an attack on a gay bar in Orlando ‘good news’ because ‘there’s fifty less pedophiles in this world’.

The Israeli information centre CIDI also supported the ban because Anderson has disputed whether the Holocaust happened.

Harbers said there was no place in ‘a democratic state such as ours’ for discrimination, incitement to hatred or intolerance or violence towards another group.

Now that he's on the Schengen Information System ban list, he's banned from all EU/EEA countries :)

Well, what is there to report on the UK front?

As predicted, we're doing absolutely nothing with the time given to us by the EU. The Brexit party is polling at close to 30% in the EU elections with Labour just behind, the Conservatives dropping massively to 17% and Change/Lib dem/Green picking up leftovers.

Despite committing to a confirmatory vote on any proposed deal in the Labour party conference last year, the incompetent Eurosceptic Labour leadership are trying to avoid this at all costs. The Labour membership are massively in favour of a confirmatory vote/PV.

No legislative update from the House of Commons either, they aren't even trying to get a deal through anymore.

whats the difference between the brexit party and ukip? why dont they merge, at least for the EP elections?

Farage wants control. He doesn’t like the current UKIP leader and his welcoming of alt right memers into the party.

I see.

Well, for the EP elections, it wont matter too much. But for the next general election, having the pro-brexit vote split over tories, brexit party and ukip would spell disaster for them and more or less hand Corbyn the country on a silver platter, wouldnt it? I mean, at this rate, he could win a majority in the commons with something like 35% of the popular vote...

UKIP is polling at 5% or less, without Farage it’s done for and he’s well aware of it. Brexit party is polling at 30%...very impressive

Their most recent poll on westminster voting intention (from april 27th) has the brexit party at "just" 17%. The 30% they get for the EP is impressive indeed, but the EP elections traditionally favor parties from the fringes. Across Europe, the greens and the pirates and obscure right-wing populists all traditionally do better in EP elections than their domestic elections.

this is obviously good news, however for me its raising questions at the same time

so banning people from entry suddenly works, when its about anti gay hate crime....
meanwhile islamic terrorists, terrorist financers and other criminals can travel as they like

priorities right?

The hate preacher is traveling under his own name and not trying to hide his identity. Big difference! Of course we'd like to always apprehend known terrorists at the border, but the existence of falsified passports makes that a lot harder.
