Im not talking about hanging with neighbors.

I am talking about the redistribution of wealth by the government.

You don't need to correct me, I'm not mistaken.

Being social isn't paying taxes and having that money go to strangers. That is being socialist. We're not loaning friends money lol.

Socialistic. I'm aware people do not own the means of production.

No, it isn't. Socialism is:

Quote
a political and economic theory of social organization which advocates that the means of production, distribution, and exchange should be owned or regulated by the community as a whole.

Being social:

Quote
living or disposed to live in companionship with others or in a community, rather than in isolation

Taking care of your neighbors when shit hits the fan is being social, not being socialist. You can be a wonderful, caring human being and still want the government to stay out of your life.

gotta love how quickly right wing hacks 'learned' a somewhat accurate definition of 'socialism' in order to defend certain measures. i bet they will immediately 'unlearn' it to smear progressives though.

OK but we are not talking about helping our neighbors informally. We are talking about the government redistributing wealth.

There is nothing wrong with this I've always been cool with this. As long as there is the consent of the governed.

Since when does it matter if it's formal or informal?

The right of this country spent nearly ten years destroying the definition of socialism. There isn't a single universally accepted definition anymore, at least in America. Semantics arguments are usually crap, but in the case of the definition of socialism, it's double crap.

And yet when I say "I just ordered oogaooga" my dad understands that I just got off the phone with pizza hut, and my coworker understands that when I say 'Today is wednesday" it means the most unpleasant person I work with is nearby.
