Deep dived some statistics on prison rates, it is said that Scotland has a poor level of incarceration; But even that looking at the prison population rate Scotland is ranked 110th in the world. With the US coming in at 6th.

Scotland has a lot of migrants. Many of them are students attending world class historical universities.
The country has a lot of social issues, health issues and crime/drug problems. But overall if you are sensible its a pretty great and safe place to live.
