Steering production via price during times of shortage means that rich buyers and the products/services they demand are prioritized over poor people and their needs.
If there's a situation where it's impossible to produce enough TP for everyone, your approach means that the rich folks get all of it while the poor can wipe with their hands.

Ok, healthy workers are probably not the bottleneck for TP production. But what if the supply chains are interrupted or overburdened and the TP factory runs out of its fiber supply? Then, we're in a situation of fundamental shortage which price hikes cant fix, so all price hikes do is enrich the producer and yield an unfair allocation of a scarce resource.

the reality is that, while it's possible in some scenarios to run short on base supplies, many industries have the ability to ramp up production rather easily. they already run at less than maximum, almost all equipment have variable frequency drives which have a .5-1.5 turndown/up ratio, that's industry standard. so if your line goes at 60 feet per minute, u can run 30 fpm or up to 90 fpm without any risk of damaging equipment.

now that's a simplified way to put it, u can't literally make 1.5 times more product in an actual sense, but more is for sure 100% possible in most modern production without needing to even change anything. and this includes many raw material production facilities. or in the case of paper they could use more recycled to put product out in their batches.

You must have missed the fact that the Chinese government has started spreading the blatant lie that the virus was brought to Wuhan by American soldiers/secret agents. Trump had actually stopped calling it the Chinese virus for quite some time, and only brought back the label in response to this Chinese propaganda lie.

To be fair, A GOP senator started the propaganda campaign. https://www.nytimes.com/2020/02/17/business/media/coronavirus-tom-cotton-china.html

Do you even know what a fucking strawman argument is? I didn't say "this is (inaccurately) your argument and here's why it's wrong." I made fun of you for being so predisposed to condemn absolutely anything to do with Donald J Trump that I was positive that had my imaginary scenario arose, that would have been how you reacted. Don't use logical fallacies with me, you're out of your league.

There's a reason people use simplified terms for these epidemics. The most accurate way to describe it is SARS-COV-2, but that's a technical term most lay people simply aren't going to use in regular conversation. Lay people use lay terms. Derp.

again, for the slow crowd: "corona virus" / "covid-19" are the terms that everyone was using - INCLUDING the people who are now pushing the "china virus" label. so your little 'this is just a simplified term for the accurate description' pivot simply doesn't make any sense.
this is clearly a coordinated effort for political reasons, that actually stokes fear and mistrust against asian americans, and if you weren't so biased and stubborn, you'd be able to realise and acknowledge that.

your moronic 'you think everything trump does is bad, so i don't even have to address the issue at hand' approach is an intellectually lazy and dishonest way to dismiss any criticism leveled against him. again, context matters. this is not trump saying 'the sky is blue', or him curing cancer. you just suffer from an extreme case of confirmation bias (and butthurt). you might not be a cultist yourself, but you're certainly embracing their talking points and anti-intellectualism.

the funniest thing about the whole "trump wants to paint asians in a bad light" conspiracy theory is its just like flat earth.

ok, let's say i buy at face value Trump wants people to harass and abuse asian people in public? why? for what gain? for what purpose?

just like flat earthers cant ever answer why someone would spend trillions of dollars covering up the shape of the earth.

people are just so used to Trump being racist and stirring division that they're eager to shove a square peg in a round hole. Trump has consistently been anti chinese govt, and has no history of hating asian americans or even chinese americans.

Fender is partly right. Let me lay out the truth:

- It's not racist to call it Wuhan virus, but insisting on that term after "corona virus" became popularized is a little suspect

- calling it Chinese virus is done with the following motivations: being racist, deflecting blame onto China, distracting from Trump's incompetence by blaming China and creating silly culture war fights that the propaganda outlets can exploit

As smarter pundits have said, it's probably wise to just ignore the racist head fake from the cult and focus on more important issues.

i agree with every single word except the bolded.

while i think trump may be racist towards asians, and that he is racist overall, it just seems so clear he's following the same anti-CCP line he's drawn since day 1. and also do deflect blame for his slow and poor response, 100%.

but the question remains, what would people on tik tok yelling "WUHAN" at asian people in america do for Trump? it's the same type of side effect racism that was caused by 9-11. LONG before trump said anything asians the world over were being harassed for potentially having corona. i saw videos from weeks ago from other countries, then in america.

I'm speaking of the whole cult, not just Trump. At best it's extremely insensitive to call it the "Chinese virus". I don't think Trump wants to hurt Asian people, I just think he doesn't give a shit how it might make Asian-Americans feel that this virus is branded "Chinese". The motive leans much more on the other points I've laid out though.

If I was a journalist or pundit, I'd ignore this issue. It's a worthless distraction that just helps the Trump propagandists.

ahhh yes i understand you now. and i agree entirely with this post, especially not taking the bait as a journalist when there's new things to report on by the minute to focus on, rather than defaulting to "how do we make this about racism" mode.

the problem with your hackery is that you're so used to strawmanning, you couldn't even make a point if you had the balls to address me directly.

there is a massive difference between 'trump is pushing this label, which obviously leads to division and mistrust against asian americans' and 'his goal is to paint all asians in a bad light'. he obviously risks and accepts the latter, but of course that doesn't necessarily make it the main reason. that's just poor logic and bad reasoning on your part. you're trying to shove a flat earth into a square hole there, buddy.

there could be a flashing neon sign reading 'deflecting from his own shortcomings, his mismanagement and poor handling of america's response to this pandemic', and still some people would be simply too stupid to see even this most obvious motive for the 'chinese virus' spin. guess it worked like a charm with you. really shouldn't be surprised anymore...
