Except as I pointed out, its literally the police's job to protect and serve. They have a responsibility to protect you and a liability if they fail to protect you, even if no existing custodial relationship exists. Now try really hard to see if you can parse that and realize why that doesn't contradict anything I have said for multiple posts in a row and realize I explained to you the difference in the very first post of this chain.
"If you're being violently attacked in plain view of multiple police, its their job to protect you. Its their duty to intervene. Failing to do so is grounds for them to be fired."
and yet lots of police don't and face no reprecussions, and are actively trained not to if it means they would themselves be injured.
