For the past twenty years:

85% of Canadians are vaccinated, well above the "herd immunity" metrics that the CDC, WHO and CIHI set out, and this standoff is over the government trying to forcibly vaccinate the remaining ~10% they can reach by coercing them by withholding their livelihoods. Its borne out of the managerial class imposing their will upon the working class, not borne out of science. And what did they do when the workers stood up for their rights? Rolled out the Pinkertons.

With the Delta and then Omicron variants, herd immunity has become impossible anyway. And Canadian hospitals are not overwhelmed, not even close; cases are going down, spring is around the corner (okay, maybe not in CAN ) and everyone who wants to self-protect against covid can just get the vaccine for oneself. At the current moment, it's completely pointless to try to ram the vaccine down the throats of the few holdouts and borne out of nothing but dogmatism and the ruling class trying to save face. They cannot allow any of the unvaxxed to "get away" with it and thus call the power/assertiveness/determination of the government into question.
