But it was during the Civil War that America first experimented with absentee voting on a large scale, as so many of the men who were eligible to vote were away from home fighting. During the 1864 presidential election—in which Republican incumbent President Abraham Lincoln defeated Democratic candidate George McClellan—Union soldiers voted in camps and field hospitals, under the supervision of clerks or state officials.

“Excuse-required absentee voting started during the Civil War—a product of the competition between Abraham Lincoln and George McClellan,” Paul Gronke, a professor of political science at Reed College and founder of the non-partisan Early Voting Information Center, told TIME in 2016. “Lincoln wanted to assure that he got the votes of the soldiers who were serving away from home.”

Absentee voting isnt the same as mailing out millions of ballots based on incorrect voter registrations. Weve been over that a million fucking times.

Al Gore litigated the election for 40 days in 2000. This isn't unprecedented or abnormal.

What is abnormal is mail in voting.

Five states – Colorado, Hawaii, Oregon, Utah, and Washington – conduct what are commonly referred to as all-mail elections. In these states, voting is conducted primarily, although not necessarily exclusively, by mail.

In 1998, voters in Oregon passed an initiative requiring that all elections be conducted by mail.
In 2011, the Washington legislature passed a law requiring all counties to conduct vote-by-mail elections.
In 2013, Colorado began holding all elections by mail.
In 2014, Utah started allowing each county to make their own decision regarding whether to go to all mailed-out ballots. In the 2016 general election, 21 of 29 counties did so.
In 2016, California passed SB 450, which authorizes a roll-out of vote by mail across the state, at county discretion.
In 2018, Michigan passed Proposal 3, a state constitutional amendment legalizing "no-excuse" voting by mail (meaning that the voter does not need to provide a reason for requesting a mail-in ballot) and other election reforms.
Kansas conducted its Democratic primary in May 2020 entirely by mail.[66] Hawaii used full vote by mail for all elections beginning with its primary in May 2020.
Florida allows postal voting for any reason.

In 1997, Texas amended its election statutes to permit voting from outer space.

None of this shit is new, you're just splitting hairs because you can't stand that Trump lost. Our mail and voting infrastructures are very clearly capable of working properly. One state just managed to do 3 million mail in ballots in 4-5 days during a pandemic.

Sending one mail in ballot to an astronaut is probably the shittiest argument I've heard in my 12 years on this forum.

500 votes is very different than several thousand though. If 70% of Republicans believe that the election was not free/fair, then democracy can't work. The system only works if you believe in it.
