the biggest issue with his age imho is that it makes his VP pick extremely important, much more so than usual.

Bernie will choose a sycophant, because even in death he can't risk his dream progressive direction for the country dying to a moderate predecessor.

now think what this does for his elect-ability. Obama was the scary black dude, so he chose a middle of the aisle seasoned senator to balance it out. Trump chose Pence because of his establishment connections and links to rust belt politics in battleground states. HRC chose Tim Kaine because he was a mouthpiece for her to use to vent rage, his debate performance against pence was so high energy it was almost cringey. Bumbly Bush 2 got steady scary Cheney. Likeable Clinton chose booksmart Gore. etc

now picture a 2020 American electorate looking at Trump/Pence vs Bernie/______, with that _____ being just as progressive and pie in the sky as Bernie. No tempering, just a hard and fragile edge. progressive-ism seasoned with wokeness and dream filled emotional promises. America will balk. Bernie has like 30% of the democratic party's support and he's much nearer the ceiling of overall general election support than most people realize. when middle america is asked to vote away their hard fought union healthcare, asked to pay more taxes, and warned what this means for their and their parents' stock market accounts, they'll turn and run.

I genuinely think that Bernie would pick AOC as his VP if she met the age threshold.

One pick that might be really intriguing though is Stacey Abrams. She would balance the ticket demographically, she's well-liked by the progressive wing of the party, and her focus on voting rights would add another dimension to Bernie's economics-focused campaign. And yeah, she would probably allow him to make huge inroads with black voters, which would all but guarantee Bernie the nomination.

if he's lacking in black voters down the stretch i could see an early VP pick of Abrahms. otherwise i see him waiting until he gets the nomination and going with the person from the progressive pack that least scares suburban whites. quite frankly i dont even know who fits that bill, but i didnt see Tim Kaine nor Mike Pence coming, so clearly there's a lot of people adjacent to the race that can be called on. congresspeople and governors we've only rarely heard of. like who tf even is Mayo Pete? came out of nowhere.

What about Warren though? She has strong appeal to college-educated, suburban voters, particularly women. On the issues, they're on the same page anyway. Only problem with that ticket is that it's "too white" for the 2020 Democrats.

Don't forget Michele Obama.

My 80 yo landlord, who likes Trump, thinks M. Obama is either gonna BE the democratic POTUS nominee or slide into a VP slot.

/e Personally, I think that's a scary thought...

omg after the trainwreck of a campaign she's run thusfar. i doubt it. not only does she not have even one single idea of her own, she actually supports a lot of watered down versions of Bernies with less substance.

it could be, but i doubt it.
