McConnell was very clear in condemning the attack.
McConnell and others enabled Trump by not speaking out forcefully against his "stolen election" narrative. They didn't seem to mind when the president and his allies pushed state legislatures to overturn the will of the people, or when he leaned on the Georgian SoS to find him votes.
Now, they want to pretend the incident should just be forgotten, and the president doesn't need to be held accountable for his actions. The extremists who stormed the Capitol will face consequences, but the president who egged them on and then failed to adequately respond while it was happening is on the path to acquittal. He can run again in 4 years after all of this madness.
When only one side of the aisle is outraged by what happened, and only one side wants accountability(absent a handful of Republicans like Romney and Cheney), it's reasonable to conclude that the right-wing has a serious extremist problem.
