Smart leaders understand that maintaining normal relations with those countries is the only way forward. A few decades ago leaders understood that, today's woke "progressives" don't.

So supplying Afghanistan with massive amounts of arms to fight Soviet invaders was maintaining normal relations?

The mistake is not viewing his posts through this lens. For some reason, many right leaning people prefer Russia. Specifically Putin.
