Lying and deflecting on behalf of her boss is quite literally the job description of a press secretary. I really dont see why this should be held against Psaki, particularly after the Trump press briefings which consisted of nothing but lies and nonsense.

If there's anything to be upset about, it's the softball questions by the media, not how the Biden admin handles them.

Bingo. It's strange because I don't know who actually watches these things. Informed people read and watch news shows. Uninformed people aren't watching press briefings. Is there some middle ground of people who don't watch shows/read newspapers but they watch this?

This is the wrong attitude.

We can say that a Press Secretary's job involves spinning, deflecting, in some circumstances even outright lying, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't hold it against them. Particularly the lying portion. It's worth pointing out how insanely bad the prior administration's PressSecs were, but it's not a valid reason to excuse lying from Jen Psaki.

When it comes to outright lies, yes. But most press secretaries are not as brazen as the Trump ones, most of them are lying via half-truths; and it's always been that way. Nowadays, fact-checking is far more easy to do, so we notice a lot of the little and not so little lies by our officials. I believe that politicians in earlier times were significantly more dishonest and corrupt than we realize because they lived in an environment where they could usually get away with it.
