Russian planes have as much business there as American planes.
But it is alright though, Putin is doubling down on Assad because Assad is the only dictator left who will return his phone calls.
Let them both go down together. Who pays? Syrians and Russians in the end unfortunately. Hopefully Europe will be kind to them as they're flooding in. They aren't being kind to the Syrians right now, and are blaming them for all the problems that existed before they got there, and will probably scapegoat them like the Jews. They might be kinder to the Russians, because of their light complexion, when they're flooding into Europe looking for food and shelter, because Moscow is the precipice of an active volcano right now...its economy is in the shitter, the state is getting increasingly authoritarian to quell domestic trouble, the old oligarchs are running out of things to steal (we solved that problem for our oligarchs with Citizens United), and Putin is looking increasingly erratic and desperate.
I say keep arming whatever groups are being a pain for Assad, until he falls apart, because his regime is running on fumes as well at this point. Assad is the root of the problem here. These armed groups formed as a response to a lack of democratization in the Syrian state and the state itself attacking its own population which was peaceful at the time, with deadly force.
