The "mistake" Crozier made was, by the leaked letter, telling the world that the U.S.S. Theodore Roosevelt was "out of commission".
It has nothing to do with why he leaked the letter, just the fact that he did.

Um, the letter didn't say that at all....also HE didn't leak the letter.

A clear question: Do you means he made a technical mistake and never tried to warn the public about this ?

Warn the public, and the world (including all the bad actors), that the Roosevelt was out of commission?

Thomas B. Modly, the acting secretary of the Navy, said he had lost confidence in Crozier’s ability to command the ship effectively as it dealt with the evolving crisis after Crozier sent the letter on an unclassified email system to 20 to 30 people. Sending such a letter, Modly said, caused unnecessary alarm about the operational readiness of the ship and undermined the chain of command. “In sending it out pretty broadly, he did not take care to ensure that it couldn’t be leaked,” Modly said. “And that’s part of his responsibility.”

Loose lips, sink ships and all that. :/

I asked you if YES or NOT the captain Crozier informed the public - by a way or another, most important is if it was his decision or just a technical mistake - about the U.S.S. Theodore Roosevelt situation.

It was public knowledge that there was an issue (as well as the location) prior to the letter being released...also the letter explicitly stated that the carrier could be ready for war...

Did you read the letter?

Proof that the world knew that it was docked in March: https://www.upi.com/Defense-News/2020/03/26/Navy-docks-USS-Theodore-Roosevelt-to-test-crew-for-COVID-19/5391585250944/

Here is the letter, dated March 30th...4 days after the world KNEW the carrier was out of commission: https://www.sfchronicle.com/bayarea/article/Exclusive-Captain-of-aircraft-carrier-with-15167883.php

There is zero fucking chance that Modly didn't see the video of the crew chanting Crozier's name as he departed the ship (in fact, I believe Modly even referenced it during his address to the crew), so for him to come out and call Crozier "stupid" is obscenely unprofessional. He just effectively lost the faith and trust of the entire US Navy. Fuck him.

People that make technical "mistakes" don't GET to be captains of aircraft carriers. So no... it wasn't a technical mistake.

The 1st link says "the carrier was docked to TEST for CV 19. The letter confirming that the crew was infected and therefore useless...IS the problem. "Loose lips, sink ships".

Why do you think the crew is useless? I guess if you had a cold on D-Day, you didn't have to fight!

Again, please read the letter :)

The crew isn't useless. The Roosevelt is.

As for the letter... I don't care WHY he wrote the letter... doing so is against the UCMJ. Crozier broke military law.

An aircraft carrier can't function properly with a large part of the crew.... sick. An aircraft carrier is not like Walmart or an office building. The crew needs to be 100% all the time.
I know this probably doesn't make much sense in civilian speak, but every crew member is like a cog in a well oiled machine.
The military, when necessary, does things much faster than a civilian organization does.

Mistakes on an aircraft carrier...cause deaths, and that's in peace time.

On top of all that, the world now knows we have one less playing piece on the international game board. That information in itself is very useful to international bad actors.
It's hard to explain if you haven't... been there, done that.

You'll just have to take my word for this.
