I didnt blast him for his net worth, I just rejected the notion that someone with a net worth of $2.5m isnt rich or at least very well-off.

In my personal opinion, being 'rich' or 'privileged' is not just about money or a lavish lifestyle, it's about security, it's about not having to worry about the future material well-being of oneself and one's family.

Even if someone's net worth is mostly tied up, as Thor mentioned, being at $2.5m is still such a vast cushion that I have to consider this person to be rich.

95% of Americans have a net worth that’s less than 2.5 million. Normal Americans don’t have 3 homes and 6-7 figures saved. That 2.5 figure also doesn’t include his 401k account and other stock market assets that are private. If you include those he probably gets bumped up into the 1-2% percent of Americans with x net worth.

I mean I understand why his sympathizers are trying to make it seem like he’s just one of us but that’s some next level cognitive dissonance.

He's not one of the ordinary plebs, but at the same time, I do buy into the left's characterization of Bernie as someone who's not corrupt and did not abuse his political career to enrich himself. Similarly, I believe Bernie when he stylizes himself as being genuinely on the side of poor people and their interests. That's something I cant say about Warren, who strikes me as the champion of the academic class rather than the working class.

Normal Americans are not senators or doctors or lawyers .
You need to look at it from the level of his age and social standing.
And keep in mind half of it came from book sales in the last 5 years..
Bernie got a good chunk of his net worth pretty recently, well after he started his campaign.
