How american of you to think strength comes only from economic might.

canada is currently part of a 2 country efforts to regulate their border with us. and the US is the primary beneficiary of this. the canadian border has become the new leaking point for immigrants, maybe they'll just stop patrolling. does this cost Trump billions of dollars to offset? no. but his entire campaign was built on the effectiveness of a border with Mexico being close-able.

also Canada allows us to ship through their waters, which speaks to economic might concerns.

sure they're dependent on us, but they can strike a deal with the EU also. and a tariff campaign isnt a blockade, see: china-US 2016 to now.

It also comes from military might and soft power. Whatever other you may think of, we still have an upper hand on Canada.

Our relationship with Canada is symbiotic. It would be a colossal miscalculation on their part to get agro over some fleeting Trump spat over masks that will probably be forgotten in a few days.

It would be like me punching a 325 lb guard in the mouth for smiling at my girl understanding the guy will probably put me to sleep and ill wake up with a broken jaw.

so you think a military invasion of Canada is on the table?

our military might matters to canada as much as the UK, France, or just about any country with over a 50% literacy rate. nada. even less so for Canada, as they dont have as many benefits from NATO.

Canada also has 2x more natural resources per citizen than any US state, excluding Alaska. they could shut off the trade with the US and be fine supplying oil, wood, iron, and many other products to the EU and China.

so answer for me, if the Canadians decide to stop enforcing the northern border what will Trump do? he'll do nuttin.

Nah, we should just tell the 1000+ nurses that live in Windsor and work in Detroit they are critical resources and for the duration of this pandemic they are to be redeployed as needed in Canada.

I mean thats the whole thing about this disease that idiots like bob don’t understand.

I think (hope?) that everyone understands collateral damage is real. The distinction is that collateral deaths aren't included in the official covid count. It's up to us to move beyond the official covid count to consider the true damage that covid is doing to our society.

Why would we invade them lol, we can ask and they will gladly let us in. I'm sure we have a fair amount of bases in northern Canada to counter any sort of Russian aggression over the arctic.

Why escalate over this though? Canada has nothing to gain.

Trump is notorious for flip flopping on pretty much everything. I guarantee that in a few days this will fade out of the news cycle and excess masks will be exported to Canada if you guys still need them. All it would take is for a few manufacturing leaders to say is "we have met all of our domestic demand and we will like to make money by sending Canada some'. I think this whole ordeal is based on the fact that it's an item that's in high demand and he doesn't want Americans to pay a higher price because Canadians are bidding on our mask production.

You said the US's power comes from military might, and you and I are talking about a US/Canadian tiff. so, why did u bring that up?

Is anybody else becoming slightly paranoid at seemingly normal-ish things because of Covid-19 ? In other words, being slightly lethargic isn’t crazy out of the ordinary for some people, now however it’s like...

Slight momentary headache - Corona
Momentary throat tickle - Corona
Bored & filling lethargic - Corona

I find myself making sure I can still taste & smell my food when I eat lol

Perhaps I should’ve just not smoked that joint though

I have BAD season allergies. nothing worth medicating, but runny nose, sore throat, and a slight cough. every single spring. pair that with IBS and my daily diarrhea trip to the bathroom has be all sorts of paranoid. surprisingly the paranoia melts away with my nightly bowl.
