He is trying to deceive you. He assumes things need justifying just like creationists assume someone created the universe. Its theoretical nonsense without an ounce of proof.
A convenient story that has no basis in reality.

Also he is scared af to answer a question I proposed to him because it collapses his entire worldview. So he is doing all he can to avoid it. Typical coward/liar behaviour not wanting to get exposed.
So don't worry he doesn't know either just pretending.

What do you call yourself when you've avoided many questions yourself?

I guess you consider yourself brave to ignore others?

when you say proof replace that with justification. if something "needs proof" it also "needs justification"

what is your question? don't be ambiguous with it be specific

By your logic here I have no justified reason to believe anything. Possibly I don't.

It's not faith, it's a belief. A belief on how to treat other people. That's much different than faith that a god exists.

you said you don't have justification and people around you believe it so you believe it basically, it reminds me of "well my family is religious.. so"

I'm not familiar with "well my family is religious.... so"

What does that mean?

your reasoning for your moral system isn't justified, you simply hold it because your society holds it.

some people are religious not because of good reason, they're religious because the society they were brought up in is religious.

logically speaking, there is no difference in your faith. you both believe something, without justification, because people around you believe it.

your "belief" in morality is equivalent to a religious faith

Women and children not being raped is my preference. I think it's wrong.

There is a big difference between saying "this is how I think people should be treated" and "I believe supernatural thing exists".

It's not faith, it's a preference and it's a belief.

I don't need to have faith in my own preferences.

then you are admitting it's not actually wrong and you just don't like it.

if someone has a different preference than you, how do you determine the truth between the two views or is there no truth content here and everything is just preference? this is the issue with calling something "good" or "evil" or even "wrong".

you cannot say "murder is wrong" without a justification of good vs evil, you can say "i don't like murder"

It is a preference he can make it because he prefers not to die. In other words he is chosing the value of life over death based on his own values or natural survival instinct. You refuse to answer if the builder is right or wrong because you are intellectual coward, afraid your world view isn't as coherent as you think it is.

That's a problem with theoretical philosophy larping it's all fun and games until you have to prove it in real life.

The problem is that you think people who do those things should be punished, right?

If you want to punish people for things, that is a statement of complete faith in the value of your beliefs over contradicting beliefs.

There are no moral subjectivists, I don't know why you guys feel the need to pretend to be one. Just be honest. Rape is bad. For sure. It's not hard to say.

I prefer blueberries to strawberries. Rape is not a matter of preference. It's good vs evil. Obviously.

I'm not pretending to be anything. I've also said rape is bad, but I ended up phrasing it as a preference because I'm not learned enough in philosophy to answer majoryblood's questions.

It's both.

.

I'm not sure what faith has to do with this.
