country that makes nearly all of the world's masks and other assorted healthcare products got richer in a health crisis, color me shocked....

paper companies made a killing making TP for idiots in America as well. one of the plants we did conveyor for had a truck line that was nearly 3 miles long.

And don't forget that our Dear Leader wants to stop all US shipments of masks and other hospital gear we produce to Canada. Nevermind the fact that one pulp mill in British Columbia is the world's only source for the K10S cedar pulp used in the production of them.

Didn't think I'd ever see the day where Canada and the US had such a tenuous relationship. Mexico? sure, it hasn't always been a perfect relationship, but Canada? What the fuck....

and as a bit of an aside, when Trump announced his moronic wall platform in 2016 i correctly pointed out that ports of authority and the northern border would become a serious problem. water finds the path of least resistance. Now Trump is having serious issues with drug and illegal traffic on the northern border, even before his wall is close to completed. he's talked shit about Trudeau and Canada generally, is cutting off supplies to them, and wants them to look at their Visa and immigration issues to save his ass from his farce of a wall failing just like I said it would. Canada should shut off the St Lawrence Seaway.

That would be a huge gambit, as it would cut off one of the world's biggest sources of iron ore. Trump seems willing to go the "play stupid games, win stupid prizes" route, though.

Canada has been politely taking abuse since before Trump was even elected, but is also expected to just keep giving the US what we want. I hope they take Trump's lead and get hard on trade to try and bring the US into submission. Lord knows we cant take the same margins that China can, so tariffs would be nasty on us.

US now over 10,000 deaths, and over 350,000 confirmed cases.

They are much more dependent on us then we are on them. Bargaining power comes from a position of strength, our 20 trillion dollar economy dwarfs their 1.6 trillion dollar economy so for them to try to do anything to bring the US into submission would be the height of stupidity.

Being the world's only source for the pulp used in N95 and other surgical masks, gowns, etc during a pandemic kind of gives them a bit of leverage, despite the difference in economic scale.

A 2006 pandemic plan warned that New York City could be short as many as 9,500 ventilators. But the city only acquired a few hundred, which were ultimately scrapped because it couldn’t afford to maintain them.

That's a neat trick. :)

Although I suppose it could be a previous death mislabeled as being from COVID-19.
