72% voter turnout is quite high.

fair enough, i'm specifically talking about young people and brexit opponents in general though, which i assume are the majority of the protesters...

She spent over two years negotiating a deal with the EU that isn’t popular among parliament or the electorate. Parliament could have been consulted prior to negotiations to ensure there was a consensus on key issues. Instead, it’s been May’s way or the highway and now with her deal dead in the water after 2 huge parliamentary defeats we’ve only got a short extension to article 50 to figure out what to do next.

As for why this is happening today specifically, it’s because she is considering agreeing a compromise suggested by Labour MP’s where they would vote for her deal on the condition that its brought to a national vote with the option to remain in the EU. The vast majority of Conservatives are totally opposed to the notion of a 2nd referendum in any context, even if it’s the only way May’s deal could work.

I initially had sympathy for May trying to do the near impossible job after the Brexiteers cut and ran, but her stubbornness in persisting with her deal, and willingness to run down the clock to blackmail MPs to vote for it, has been to the detriment of the national interest.

Imho, May has been playing a dirty game since the beginning. THAT much incompetence cant be explained by anything other than her wanting to torpedo the Brexit.

to be fair, it was just an outright impossible task to negotiate something that would both be realistic and at the same time even remotely close to what brexiteers had promised during the campaign. i said from day one that the EU couldn't even afford to do that if they WANTED to, but somehow the brits in general (and in this forum as well) seemed to be under the impression that with some shrewd negotiating there was a solution that would satisfy their main demands while maintaining the majority of the advantages a membership has.

there's a reason not a single one of the major leave campaigners stepped up to take political responsibility for the chaos they caused - they were smart enough to realise it's career suicide.

what i DO blame her personally for is that she wasted so much time trying to create a stable mandate without even having a concrete idea of what the EU negotiators would be willing or able to accept - and by the time she finally realised it, after getting completely rejected by the EU for her unrealistic vision of how a brexit deal could look like, she didn't have the courage to outright tell the brits what can and can't be done. but again, it was just virtually impossible to find a plan that would be supported by a political majority domestically, as well as realistically accepted by the EU.

She's the one who decided to hold the burden of delivering the Brexit people voted for, divided. you should respect her.
Many are barking about her incompetence but good luck getting something better from EU. No one tries, such a pathetic show.

I hope something like;

- Labors get cracked and support the agreement, which end up in being voted.
- UK start the pseudo brexit, so May did her part and leave/get kicked out
- New elections with the supermacho dro94 posted about, who get in charge because Corbyn sucked too much
- Brexin referendum in 2021, UK is back, accept to change its currency to EURO.

World politics is something I want to learn more about. Perhaps this whole Brexit situation will be the place to start.

i think it was possible to get a better deal, but may completely fucked up the negotiations despite holding some power herself

obviously the EU has no intent to do something else, when they got the "pay and obey, but have no say" deal from her
may completely failed to create some pressure and imo there was a possibility to get merkel on her side as well
a brexit chaos will hurt germany A LOT

however by now i believe that the current situation is not incompetence but sabotage and her appeasement has failed

its clear that the majority does not want a hard brexit so staying in EU is objectively the best solution right now

if that was the plan from the beginning is only speculation of course, but it would continue the history of voting until it fits or outright ignoring the will of the voters in europe
