Your making my point for me for the most part IMO, although admittedly i did discount urban warfare like Bahgdad, which i should not have. My point was simply that small arms can be used ot great effect even against large govt scale armies. Still in this hypothetical one nuclear weapon ends every life in New York, whereas multiple ones would be needed ot take out each rural area. Sure you could space out the nukes and trust the radiation to eventually get the job done, but my point was that the only sure fire way to take out an armed and spread out population is full scale occupation.

It's about as realistic as a 21st century civil war in the US. I tried to make it clear from the start that i dont agree with militia interpretations of the 2nd amendment, in the sense that i dont think the 2nd amendment should be used to justify gun ownership simply for protection from our government. Rather I think it should be used in a militia sense to allow for proper weapons training in the event of a domestic invasion of the US by a foreign power. If the russians pull up in ships i want my daughter to be able to take out Ruskie eyes at 100 yards. Granted the entire conversation is pretty silly compared to simple justifications such as sport shooting events, self defense, and pure recreation. One is a reality the other an unlikely hypothetical, that's why I have never understood why the militia argument gets so much air time in the conversation.

I don't think it really needs an argument. We have these preexisting rights that the state can't infringe on, inalienable self-defense even against the state is one of these.

Inalienable because you can't really be forced to comply, they can however make you a criminal for doing so.

Pick up an m1 if u dont have one! I have a vietnam-ish era one on loan i've been plinking with to mull over if i want to buy one. I don't have anything else in a 30-06 and its just so much fun to shoot. I still might go cheap and get a sears 30-06 from the 50s-70s but they are always in such bad shape due to how cheap they were to purchase.
