thanks for the translation, gotta say that i didnt need it here :p
if you take away that last bit of that populism definition you have the job description of any politician ot there, thats why i oppose the inflationary use of that term to submit a negative message
his statements also show a lack of knowledge when it comes to an accurate description, but he is right that the al gore movie is fearmongering at its finest
the increase in extreme weather is still a subject of debate
however its actually funny that he has better ideas for environmental protection despite being a "climate skeptic" (god, i hate this stupid word creation)
since the fusion reactor is probably still decades away thorium reactors are a really good alternative and i would like to point out the massive potential of what is currently considered atomic waste
might be costly to some extent, but the key word is reliability here
and the airport.....sounds like an epic idea and pretty much like the gigantic fail that is the BER airport (i am sure you have heard of that)
do you really need that?
Our country is too densely populated for any more landing strips at Schiphol. So if we want to increase flight capacity here change needs to happen. One solution is to expand Lelystad Airport (unpopular because people living closeby don't want more noise), another is the creation of the airport at sea.
Personally I'm pretty for the airport at sea, and I'm even ok with increasing total flight capacity, as long as it's coupled with flight taxation to combat the hidden costs of noise and environmental pollution. Kerosene is already tax-free, just like ship fuel. This puts an unfair burden on the citizen vs corporate interests. We pay out the ass for gas tax yet flight and shipping gets tax-free fuel. Not very fair.
I know that the term populism gets thrown around a lot and has lost a lot of its value, but the truth is that it also is way more present now than in the past. In the past we had a more structured political system, with people mostly adhering to their in-group (in terms of religious belief or cultural environment). IE farmers and Christians voting CDA and general left-wing voting PvdA. Those two parties were giant pillars of the political system. Now that's really all gone by the wayside.
In terms of policy there are definitely things I disagree with but only very few that I wouldn't be able to afford some compromise on. To me outright denial of human-caused climate change is non-negotiable. I can negotiate on stronger immigrant regulation, economic reform, etc.
There's also the other problem of Thierry Baudet having associated himself with some very icky people. And I don't mean just the American alt-right figures. He has spoken at the IJzerwake, where some more mild parties were the N-VA and Vlaams Belang from Belgium. Other notables are Voorpost and the NSV, two ultra-right movements that have anti-semitic tendencies.
There are quite a few quotes that I have problems with, and he hasn't distanced himself from them either. He could just be using very poor choice of words, but I find that very hard to believe.
Another example would be him writing about infamed pickup artist Julien Blanc (the guy who got into trouble when he went to Japan and pushed random women's heads into his crouch on the public street):
Quote
The reality is that women don't just want to be treated with 'respect' by their sexual partner; that they don't at all want their 'no', their resistance, to be respected: the reality is that women want to be overwhelmed, overruled, yes: overpowered. Julien Blanc is entirely correct, and all 'guys but nice' should follow his course.
Yuck.
