Because it offers more flexibility, better care, is cheaper, etc.

Until your claim is denied, and they can get away with it pretty easily.also not sure how it's cheaper.
Child birth under our private cover: $5,000.
Child birth under the public system cost us $0.00.
The difference here is $5,000 and it's the same hospital.
Steph would have paid 5 grand for slightly better meals.

My mom gets denied care all the time through the US government (military medicine). If the treatment that works for 90% of the population doesn't work for you, you have to fight hard to get treated.

That's the same with private insurance. They have whole lists of things you have to try regardless of what the doctor wants to prescribe.

Right, but you at least have the flexibility to adjust your plan according to your needs. Regardless though, coverage isn't really an issue in the US, it's the cost. I honestly think we need price controls, starting with pharmaceuticals.

dingdingding, I've been saying this all along. the true issue of the american healthcare system are the excessive costs. changing the way the burden of these excessive costs is distributed across the population will not solve this underlying problem.

Having a larger group to negotiate the cost of services does reduce cost though

Fair enough, but I wouldnt subscribe to the fantasies that the government could more or less dictate arbitrary prices under medicare for all.
