You didn’t answer the question, again. What consequences should he face?

He publicly encouraged violence and even offered to pay off those consequences as well and straight up said his cult is strong enough to kill someone

People have faced harsh consequence for less and similar, have they not?

I don’t think it’s insane to expect people to own up to what they say instead of saying ‘it’s Trump’s fault I said awful stuff on TV’. Maybe you or some people are too easily influenced.

You aren't understanding this.

People are responsible for what they say... and at the same time Trump has lowered the level of decency in political discourse. The president is influential in a number of ways.

Does that apply to Obama, in regard to the tone of discourse or lack thereof on race relations, or does this only apply to Trump ?

A very marginally small influence, sure. Not to the extent where you can blame anything & everything on him, like you guys like to do.

I think Obama talked about issues of race in a restrained way. If he had been less sympathetic to those issues, it would've had an effect. If he had been more inflammatory, it would've had an effect.

I get why you guys want to pretend that the way a president acts doesn't matter... I don't remember that talking point when Obama was in office though.

You’re downplaying the responsibility of everyone else by giving too much importance to his influence. People are just using his tone as an excuse to do the same. Being openly mean and vulgar towards him sells, that’s it.

That's fine, but people overvalue his effect or undervalue it from the right perspective. No one seems to be able to actually dial in the effect itself.

Trump running in 2008 would have been a bigger circus with him likely not clearing the primaries. Post 9-11 we got serious about politics, even if clowns still made it in. Trump being voted in in the first place is a reflection of the times, a reflection of what reality TV and social media have done to society. We're as a people looking for more entertainment in every aspect of life. With that entertainment value comes a lowered discourse generally.

People seem to think we all started getting rude and polarized under Trump. Or from the other side it's "HURRR DURR OBAMA SAID HE MIGHT HAVE BEEN MY SON, COUNTRY FOREVER FRACTURED!!!!!!!!! reeeeeeeeee".

we've been heading this way for a while, and even Trump's actions are a reflection of this. as an entertainer he's more prone to public pressure than more serious president's before him. Yet I turn on CNN and hear the retards there spew straight bullshit like "well when you have a president emboldening these people daily with every word he says, this is the result." Implied cause, implied direct effect. And those are the slick ones, the pundits paid to be there by the DNC make much more direct claims.

People would be better served to see Trump as the effect, rather than the cause. they'd be closer to the truth with that than to scapegoat a guy that nearly 50% of the country voted for with a smile.

I'm not saying it's all Trump's fault, just that he has had an effect, and I think a relatively significant one. I can't imagine Colbert or Bee making those comments and getting away with it under a Bush or Clinton presidency.

So people have used the president's lack of dignity as an excuse to be undignified themselves?

Close enough to my point, I'll take it.

lol that’s pretty much what I’ve been saying since the beginning. I don’t really think he’s directly influencing people that much, they just wanted an excuse to televise their hatred.
