While that quote explained what you are attempting to do, I understand what you're attempting to do.  I have no qualms with your attempting to increase your awareness; I have a problem with your claim that the truth is what we empirically experience with our five senses.

I understand your point, but I don't agree...
Let me try to explain it again : what you get through your senses can NOT fail, only the mind can make it fail. If you get your mind out of the way as explained, you get in touch with the truth/present/reality/true life (some call it God or holy spirit)... through your senses.
It is not an easy way, I do not claim to be free of the mind and know the truth myself... but I know the way thanks to The Present.
As I already said before anyone can do it.

Quote
The way: You just have to do one thing; learn to recognize what is true (life) and what is not true (mind). Then give your life to just what is true. If you do this, the false illusions of the mind will no longer control your life, and you will be free. Think about it until you understand the truth completely, and then just do what the truth dictates.

If you want to know the truth, you just have to accept few facts :
You currently do not know the truth (believing, understanding and knowing are very different concepts).
Physical life is balanced.
You are more than your physical self (that includes your mind).
The present moment is eternal and your spirit evolves with it... It is impossible to be conscious of being unconscious --> your spirit is immortal (or life would have no sense).

All that is hard to believe, I do not ask you to believe it, just to check it for yourself (read The Present, and experience/check for yourself what it says).
Actually I do not really care if you check it for yourself or not, I have done my job and rest is not my call anyway.

Just a reminder : "To know the truth is the best thing. To know that you do not know is the second best. To pretend to know when you do not know is a disease." Lao Tzu
To know the truth means are completely open to life... I do not know how it feels exactly, but for what I understand, it is a bliss and the best thing that can happen in life.
Also, if you get to know the truth in this lifespan, you will get to "heaven" after your current body dies... it is the only way to heaven actually.
Isn't the price worth the effort ? (to look for the truth, and dedicate your life to life) ?
Even if you do not get to know the truth in this lifespan, to look for it is the second best thing that can happen to you... your mind will open itself step by step and let you (our spirit) recieve more and more life as the mind opens itself.
All that is well explained in The Present and The Present (with religion).

An intro to philosophy course would clear that right up for him lol.

Hume was a badass though, have to give him that.

Sorry, but there is no way you can close my mind :)

I would say you should open yours more and allow the rational side of the human brain to take its rightful place...because math is real my friend!

cognito ergo sum!

Haven't read any Hume. But it sounds like I'm carrying his torch.

So what you're trying to say is that it's impossible to know the truth through your five senses, because either:
1) Your brain is active and can cause your sensory input to be misinterpreted.
2) Your brain is inactive and therefore unable to receive and process the sensory input (you don't register any sensory input).

I think you should read up a little bit on the brain's role in sensory input and how we actually get the sensations of touch/smell/taste etc.

And this is what I was talking about earlier. If our brain doesn't work for handling senses, how does that affect our ability to tell time or know where our limbs are? Those are two senses controlled by the brain and two very important senses to have.

I'm still not seeing the impact that this has on the thread.

Well, I ment the part of the brain producing thoughts, emotions and such illusions must be "off" so your senses fully recieve the life comming to them.
The mind and the brain isn't same thing.
Your brain is always active else you would die...
Your mind does not have to always be active... You can actually not truely live with the mind producing illusional thoughts (see my previous posts).
