I think Trump is a brilliant candidate for Republicans because of how outrageous he is viewed by Democrats, because he's just this force with such immense gravity that they get entirely swept up into focusing on Trump. I've been reading some very interesting posts online by disgruntled Democrats as the tallies come in, and they almost get it right by getting it completely wrong. Some examples:
1. "I guess Republicans don't give a shit about 1/6".
2. "I guess Republicans don't care that Trump has all these felony convictions".
3. "I guess Republicans don't care about our military service members".
They say this implying that Republicans have no standards or morals, which is where they get it wrong. It's almost right though. If instead they took the time to listen to Republicans, Independents, Non-Partisan voters, Libertarians, and Moderates of right-leaning beliefs and actually got to know them, and genuinely asked them what they care about most in the world of politics and the economy, I imagine you'd have a much better chance of being elected. Unfortunately, this doesn't happen and Trump supporters/voters get written off for their intelligence, morals, or humanity as 'cult followers' as opposed to human beings who have thoughts, feelings, desires, and values like anyone else.
Good analysis.
I guess the distinction is whether a good candidate for x party constitues a good candidate for the country as a whole. If either party cared more about the people they represent, they'd run less flawed candidates.
