A public option sounds pretty nice right about now, wouldn't you agree?

that's cute, you're still pretending that demented old fool will do a complete 180, defy the very people whose bidding he has been doing for decades now, AFTER he doesn't have to pander to the working class anymore?

battered wife syndrome is strong with you. look at his record, not his promises.

Wet markets, like anything, can be done a right and a wrong way. As long as they are hygienic about their meat there's nothing inherently wrong with a wet market. The big issue comes when you have livestock inhabiting the same space as people before or during slaughter, or spoiled meat. But again, not inherently bad.

Pretty sure that the hazards posed by live animals and parasites / infectious agents / biohazards from slaughter, are very much inherent to wet markets.
I mean, you can operate a boat the right way or the wrong way, you can take safeguards like having life jackets and lifeboats, but the risks of drowning are still inherent to standing on something floating in the ocean.

True. The problem, however, is that there's ZERO reason to suspect the Chinese wet markets to be done right now, zero reason to expect them to have changed their organization or their hygiene.

I mean, yeah, there's hazards from slaughter when you buy food in the supermarket too. It's a matter of degree. You can operate in the right way, by separating animals and slaughter from where meat is sold, and a wrong way. If your procedures are the same it's immaterial if you are slaughtering down the block or three cities away.

Again: these markets that have just reopened - do you seriously think that they have improved their sanitary conditions?

well that's the whole reason slaughterhouses and meat packing plants exist and have extensive food safety regulations which aren't possible at wet markets
The Jungle kind of set it all in motion far as the US is concerned
