A 7.62 rifle round hits with nearly twice as much force as a 5.56 round. A 300 Winchester Magnum, three times. All will pierce body armor. As a matter of fact, a 5.56 hits with almost the same force as a .22 LR. The fact of the matter is that ANY rifle is dangerous to body armor. ANY rifle is useful on a battlefield. Only ONE is villainized.

That was my point when i talked about bullet vests - they only stop handgun ammo. Indeed it is stupid if only one is demonized, i was just using the AR as an example but i didn't really make the distinction between assault rifles in general, all are more lethal than a pistol. If you really want stopping power, get a hunting rifle? they're not as easily made into an automatic one and aren't usually equipped with large magazines.

just for reference tho, no one has used a modified semi automatic rifle that's been altered to shoot automatic in a mass shooting. unless we're counting the bump stocks used in the Vegas shooting. and it should be noted that full automatic firing is actually not an advantage in mass shootings in many cases as it greatly decreases accuracy.

basically, you're not wrong they can be rigged to shoot or mimic automatic firing, it's just not an advantage. you'd kill far more people just pulse firing a semi automatic at about 1 round per second. plenty of time to recover and reaim, especially since many shootings are over in a matter of minutes.
