They act as if they have won the whole war, not just a single battle. This "cold civil war" which has been going on for 2 decades plus is not decided just because Democrats were able to barely oust a man who largely self-destructed. And let's not forget that even this minimum goal was only achieved because a once-in-a-century pandemic gave them strong tailwinds, something they cant bank on in future elections.

We'll see.

In 2016 I said that if/when Republicans lose they will effectively be in a situation where they have no identity and rapidly shifting demographics make it virtually impossible to remain competitive at the federal level. That's still happening but Trump's massive rural turnout in 2016 pushed it back by 4 years. You're also forgetting that he only barely won 2016 because Hillary was supremely unpopular from the start, ran one of the worst campaigns in modern history, and Trump made a uniquely powerful populist message against the most iconic establishment candidate ever. Trump had a massive benefit of being the sitting president this election, but that's the opposite in 2024, and if they don't pick up 2024 they will be the outsider in 2028, so it's hard to envision another Trump populist vs Queen of Swamp Demons situation uniquely benefiting Republicans again.

Also forgive me for not taking you at face value when, again, you never made this kind of criticism about Republicans when they acted like they had won and proceeded to tell libs to cry about it for 3+ years and broke all norms to play power politics.

Ergo they are not actually calling for unity.

No one is saying that the left must seek unity, but Biden says he does, and unity requires compromise.

Democrats have ALWAYS been willing to compromise. It's why they're such spineless wimps when they get into government. Pelosi never fights on military spending increases and outright refuses to even allow medicare for all to come up for a vote. Biden flat out said that a strong Republican party is good for the country.

Again, you've devolved to the point where you're only capable of parroting Trump campaign ads.

When Republicans were in control and playing power politics, they didnt feel the need to give out hollow, hypocritical calls for unity.

The circumstances in 2016 were unique, sure, but keep in mind that Democrats are moving in exactly the shitty direction that Hillary's ill-fated 2016 campaign had laid out. That's something a lot of liberals refuse to see to this day: Hillary did not just lose because she was a uniquely bad candidate who campaigned in the wrong states, she also lost because her priorities and platform sucked ass. After Trump won, a lot of liberal writers and intellectuals briefly talked about this, but then they quickly forgot about it again. They ostentatiously refused to learn their lesson. Consequently, Democrats were on their way to yet another soul-crushing defeat at the hands of Trump in 2020... until, sorry that I keep coming back to this point time and time again - until a once-in-a-century event bailed them out and got them over the finish line.

The reason Biden needed the pandemic to win is not because Biden was weak or Trump was strong, it's because Trump was the incumbent. Incumbents are insanely hard to unseat in American politics. As I've said time and time again, Trump's economy numbers were a continuation of Obama's, and wage growth is expected as the unemployment numbers go down and competition for workers increases. 2020 without Covid means an ham sandwich could win running as incumbent.

No, you guys have just lost it. Biden is an arch-conservative and everyone to the right of him is either a Q-Anon Trump cultist or Hitler reborn.

Military spending isn't a right or left issue; both parties believe mostly the same things. I am talking about compromise on issues where there is genuine disagreement.

unity = join or die lol, sounds like the British recruiting loyalists to the crown. no wonder some users here are so hot and bothered by this form of “unity”

Man I love how in one breath Democrats have gone off the far left deep end and are sending us to the path of Venezuela and in another breath there's plenty of areas with no genuine disagreement with Republicans like MILITARY SPENDING (since you're dumb now I'll just spell it out for you, there is a massive desire to reduce military spending on the left).

It's almost like you are just spitting propaganda and don't care about actual consistency.

The Democratic party has moved sharply to the left. The Democratic party still (almost universally) supports very high levels of military spending.

You are seeing contradictions where there aren't any.

The hot button topics of today surround issues of censorship, law and order, the ideologization of the bureaucracy and media, and vast "green" spending budgets / regulation that aim to remake the American economy.

Biden spotted at the Lincoln Memorial mask-less mere hours after signing an Executive Order requiring masks to be worn on federal property.
