The 1st amendment doesnt cover looting, arson or generic kinds of violent rioting.

When states fail to protect their residents by deliberately not enforcing the law, the federal government has the right and the obligation to step in. This has happened multiple times in the past, just think of Eisenhower and the Little Rock Nine.
State rights are very important, and the qualifier above is a huge hurdle to clear, and for good reason. I dont think that states like Minnesota are at this point quite yet, and therefore that Trump's threats to send the military are coming too soon.

Nonetheless, he imho is absolutely right in principle in letting these governors know that he can, must and will send the military if the violence in their states continues and the local police and national guard dont get things under control (no matter if they fail because they're outnumbered and underequipped, or because local political leadership neuters them).

so the civil war wasnt about slavery (according to people using your same logic) it was about state's rights. but the federal govt has the obligation to step in if citizens aren't being protected.

lol

read the above, my point had nothing to do with looting i dont support.

No, that's not the same logic, and the core issue behind the civil war was of course slavery.

We're probably just talking about different things... You're talking about one incident which took place under special circumstances (Trump's photo op at the church in DC), I'm talking about the riots taking place all over the country and Trump's general threat of sending the military to these places if the governors and mayors dont get things under control.

It's been some busy days, I havent read up on that photo op story, but it honestly sounds like a nothingburger. People are always shoved to the side, often times in rude fashion, wherever the president makes a public appearance.

there's only one indecent to talk about in reality, Trump currently rules over D.C., where the photo op debacle took place. why do we have any reason to believe that he'll show more restraint and better judgement from his Ivory tower all across the nation? especially given his comments on Kaepernick's peaceful protest, and his statements on how protesters should be roughed up? what even single reason can you give me that a man with his IQ and temperament will instruct his troops on how to distinguish between peaceful and violent protesters? what even single reason can you give me that a guy who knows 100% of these people aren't even voting for him will avoid violence more than mayors and governors directly affected by their actions to come?

i cant think of a single objective reason to put any of this in his control. and im 100% against property violence and looting.

Sec. of Defense agrees:

So can we talk about how Trump is literally doing all the things conservatives said Obama would do?

it doesnt. but it does allow assembly, which the president stomped on to get a photo op with a bible at a church where he wasnt even welcome. but sure, let's let him and Barr magnify that type of idiocy. also, state's rights.

Wow! I keep learning new stuff today. The POTUS, not welcome at a Catholic church. What will the Catholics think of next?

Whether he's welcome is up to the owners of the facility. The president doesn't get to violate citizen's first amendment rights to get a photo-op. What he did was shit all over the first amendment so he could get pictures for his reelection campaign. I learned today he then used helicopters dropping to roof level to make a show of force. Trump is acting like a third world dictator.

Even if you disagree, does anybody not see why Trump has been compared to a fascist this whole time? I mean, even if you don't think he's actually a fascist, you've got to admit he's pulling a lot of moves that are pretty typical of those kinds of leaders....

The church was burned and boarded up before he even went there. On top of that, this isn't a bar or store... this is a church.

I read the comments that lady priest made. She's out of a job. That's if god doesn't lightning bolt her first.
