I've heard that homosexual activity is one of the greatest sins in Islam, probably weighs heavy on the bad column

Yes i can, there are no official instructions on how good and bad deeds are measured and imperfection is part of Islamic doctrine. What is it that you are especially skeptical about?

If you pay attention to the quote remco6 posted (post #322) about good and bad deeds, you'll see how arbitrary and ambiguous the principle is. Islamic theology is to blame here for the lack of coherence and interest in actual theological discussion.
