You can change the Union by not voting the parties that support the bureaucratic status quo. Most countries have parties that offer an alternative, and strive for a more democratic and federalized Europe. On the centre ground, there are several ALDE members that want a shift towards greater democracy, transnational lists, a real parliament that can make decisions by itself instead of relying on the opaque European Commission. On the left, you have DiEM25, a movement with a clear programme aimed to democratize the whole structure. The problem is on the right, where there isn't a pro-European movement that is also clearly pro-democracy and anti-bureaucratic. All right wing pro-EU parties are in favour of the current status quo, and the only parties on that side of the spectrum that are in favour of democracy and ending bureaucracy are nationalist euroskeptic ones.
well, you can try, but as you said there is still the commission around holding power and i very much doubt that they allow elected people to get rid of them
in germany only the afd wants to force the EU to really change things, but they also cant make really make their mind up, opinions there are between what you propose and breaking the whole thing up
and then there is the factor that you slightly touch in your post, i simply dont trust most people to really do it
send someone to brussels, where they receive ridiculous wages and benefits and it suddenly get a lot harder to take away these benefits
only our national states have the power make a change
oh and since we are in the meanwhile section
in berlin a convicted palestinian terrorist and murderer is allowed to host the event of an antisemitic, islamist and terrorist organisation
