Staying mostly in the background and keeping a low profile is part of the job description of a VP. ;)
Particularly when the President is a larger-than-life persona and easily fills most news cycles by himself.

I do wonder whether gaffes really matter anymore. Trump has sort of numbed us to them... maybe Joe gets a pass the next couple years.

I dunno, I think Joe is so far in the gaffe lead, that it isn't even a contest anymore.
