I thought Merrick Garland would be a good AG for Biden, he was supposed to have all these credentials as a highminded prosecutor and consummate professional and Obama's "centrist" scotus pick. Then he got in and became the most demented tyrannical AG in our country's history, leaded more political prosecutions than the Hoover FBI era. He made Janet Reno look like a saint. They made this fucker out to be Solomon and instead we got Beria. Raiding the homes of journalists in the middle of the night to forcibly seize their documents and find their sources. Storm troopers busting down the doors of an economist. He went after journalists for reporting on Biden's family and locked them up. He filled an entire prison wing with political prisoners, all for what should be misdemeanor riot charges trumped up to decades in prison. He sent a guy to prison for 22 years for sedition for first-amendment protected organizing of a political rally, jesus christ. Raiding Trump's home with armed officers. And I'm not even listing it all, steve bannon, etc etc.
I don't think Matt Gaetz would make a good AG but unless he's going to have democrats lined up against a wall and summarily executed he can't be worse than Garland. And its a lesson on expectations, maybe Gaetz will surprise us and turn out to be level-headed and focused on upholding civil liberties, unlike his predecessor. If anything, Gaetz having the albatross of his 17 year old fling wrapped around his neck might serve to tamp down on his ability to act outrageously. If he feels like he can't afford to cross the line, we're all better for it.
