https://www.politico.com/story/2019/07/26/trump-border-wall-supreme-court-1437894

Supreme Court overrules a lower court's injunction on the Trump administration's redirecting of Pentagon money to fund the border wall, gives Trump green light to go ahead with contracting and potentially even construction.
Big temporary win for Trump, although the article explains that this doesnt set a precedent for other pending suits against the border wall, which might still bring it down.

that's actually pretty awesome. it means the next democratic president will be able to divert billions out of the defense budget to fight the climate emergency without having to deal with the republican science deniers in congress. pretty nice precedent the conservative judges in the supreme court set there. long live executive action...

you're just talking out of your ass. the border wall is framed as a measure of "national security", which makes it a ton easier in a legal sense to justify using funding from the defense budget. legally speaking, framing climate change as a similarly imminent threat to the national security will be a lot more difficult.

other than that, I actually support the idea. the US military budget is completely overinflated anyway - instead of soldiers staying in their barracks sitting on their hands, it would be a much better idea to deploy them to reforesting projects, building dikes along the Atlantic coast or utilizing the pioneer corps for the construction of interstate power lines which bring solar energy from the sunny south to the cloudy north.

similarly, defense funding can be used for research on clean energy tech.

maybe you should get a clue before you accuse others of talking out of their asses... whenever a president, who isn't a science denier, takes office, that emergency can be addressed without even involving congress, and republican activist judges in the supreme court set the precedent for it. not that i necessarily expect this to happen because in general, democrats tend to value checks and balances more, and try to get things done the intended way, but in theory this opens the door for a whole lot of re-appropriation of billions of dollars by the executive branch...

“The effects of a changing climate are a national security issue with potential impacts to Department of Defense missions, operational plans, and installations,” the report found.

"National security issue" = potential issue for national security ≠ materialized threat for national security.
"potential impacts to DoD missions and installations" ≠ imminent impacts.

pathetic. you really think that you playing with words of headlines doesn't allow for a similar phrasing as trump's caretakers did for the border "emergency"? you're delusional...
