Ilhan and Ahmed married in 2009, presumably to benefit in some way from a fraudulent marriage. They did not divorce until 2017.

America barely enforces immigration law and fraud is absolutely rampant and unchecked. Millions of illegal immigrants live freely in the states and millions more got legal status by fraud.
That's a huge part of the reason Donald Trump was elected.
