Trump is NOT villifying immigrants in general. He's villifying illegal immigrants and those who are coming from shithole countries and thus bring a problematic socialization with them.
Trump, to name just one example, advocates for changing the legal immigration system to put more emphasis on merit and qualification.

The fact that "migrants" in the American debate are equated with irregular immigrants from the Global South, that they push aside high-potentials coming through the legal channels both quantitatively and in the public discourse, is exactly the problem.

being white is not a merit.
being christian is not a merit.
being born in a rich country is not a merit.

That's really a conversation Americans should be having. A nation's borders are owned by its citizens. It is not immoral to restrict immigration, and it isn't moral to expand it.
