we should give them some kind of carte blanche, so they can do whatever they see fit
its only fair, these terrorists have committed insane crimes, the people there have a right to get the justice they demand

Vengeance isn't a synonym of justice though. I really don't think that letting uncivilized angry mobs dictate sentences, like in the Middle Ages or during witch hunts, is the right thing to do. There must of course be punishment to serve as a deterrent, as well as education in order to rehabilitate the minds that have been poisoned with hate and fanaticism, but an eye for an eye isn't a step in the right direction imo.

this is correct and i also do not approve of "mob justice", but my point is that it is not our call to make
its up to the affected people to make a decision
these terrorists have destroyed their countries and its their natural right to deal with them how they see fit, if they wish to get rid of the entire bunch we have no right to interfere
i wouldnt want that the other way around

what you propose is maybe an idea for young children, however the adults are finished as human beings in my opinion
"rehabilitation" for islamists/jihadists is just a back door to exploit our society again

its a scientific fact that you cant change the overall nature of adults anymore and there is no way to actually prove if terrorists have really abandoned their ideology
thinking that you can fix these people is just naive

The majority of jihaists moving to fight in the Middle East are young adults. Of course the way they think can change over the years. If it couldn't change, then where are the millions of hippies from the Summer of Love, or all the leftists from the French May of 1968? Many people abandon the ideals they hold during their 18-30 years of age.

Where do you think the radical left antifa NEETs that riot in colleges and the streets will be in 25 years? I'll tell you where, working their asses off to pay a mortgage so they can raise little Jimmy and Katie, while they control their use of social media and ground them for coming home late and drunk and getting bad grades in school. All while complaining about the lazyness of the newer generations and the negative influence that modern videogames, music and youtube personalities have on them.

i was a leftist as well at the age of 16-18 and had some great discussions with my parents, who told me that i would change most of my views once i arrived in the adult world
they were right and i am sure it was the same for many other young people

however i dont think your comparison is fair
the people you talk about had radically different opinions than the mainstream, but they were otherwise socialised like everyone else
the isis terrorists have mostly been raised in muslim families and socialised in an environment that rejects our modern values and is inherently more violent
then they radicalised even more and committed atrocities we can barely imagine

you can go back on your political opinions all you want and thats fine, but you cant go back on being a part of the worst terrorist organisation of this century
they have crossed the line a long time ago

psychologists are very clear that humans at the age of 18-19 are fully socialised already (much earlier than that actually), meaning that their overall nature and the basic foundation of their thinking are determined
turning someone at that age, who thinks that murdering, raping, pillaging and slavery in the name of allah are justified, around is borderline impossible
that young "british" woman is the best example, she wants to return, but freely admits that she does not regret a thing
rehabilitation is impossible, when someone does not even realise that their actions have been wrong

i realise that my phrase "crossing the line" is completely subjective and your point is as valid as mine

on a sidenote: most people from 1968 have become regular citizens like everyone else obviously, however i can tell you where the worst of them have ended up (in germany and france at least)
in politics, media and branches of our state, where they infest everything with their extremist ideology and propaganda
we can thank these guys and their supporters for gender studies and political correctness to just name two examples

a prominent example would be cohn bendit, an ultra left wing (maoist, trotskyist) extremist, convicted criminal and self confessed pedophile, who managed to get kicked out of his country of birth and somehow now is an advisor for president macron

43% of Germans voted for the nazis in 1933. Where they nazis for life? No, they were reeducated and learnt that those policies were a disaster. If political psychology was already immutable by age 18, Germany would have been full of closet fascists for many decades, and we know that is not the case.

Says who?

Many of those Germans died in the war. The ones that survived lived the rest of their lives in a system where Nazism was scorned, be it the Communist GDR or the West. It's perfectly rational that the survivors would be closeted. Years of propaganda from fender's grandad doesn't just leave you.

some of them understood their mistake and distanced themselves from nationalism, racism, nazism. many others did indeed remain closet nazis for the rest of their lives.

true, however but there were not too many taking part in actual atrocities and thats the exact kind of people we talk about here
the ISIS terrorists are the SS death squads from back then, would anyone here give these guys a second chance?

as i said, its possible to go back on voting for hitler and realising that it was a mistake
i dont think the same goes for killers, who sent people into the gas chamber

I don’t have a big issue with this, many Christian and Jewish schools will be the same. The problem is to do with their religious teachings that don’t adhere to the curriculum
