Alfie Evans should have never been allowed to drag on as long as he had on life support. His brain was literally destroying itself due to the condition he had. It was utterly incurable and fatal, yet his parents fought the inevitable for a year.
It's absolutely heartbreaking to lose a child, but it's even worse, IMO, to prolong the suffering of one when there is ZERO chance of getting better.
I can't possibly imagine what I would do in their shoes. That's an unfathomable situation until you're thrust in it. I will say that I don't think the gov't should be the ones to decide that regardless of system (single payer or privately funded).
i think i would side with you and end the suffering. I would want to have the option to move my child to another facility for experimental treatment. The gov't shouldn't decide that.
