I think Israel gets pointed to by Palestinian supporters in the way that it does because Israel vastly out-powers the Palestinians, and especially Gaza. Supporters of Israel often talk about how Israel is a state but that there "has never been a Palestinian state". If we lean into that argument, then being "a state" comes with certain responsibilities, expectations, and calls for accountability. If you can't handle the heat, stay out of the kitchen.
before the Israelis were given the land there wasn't a Palestinian state, and there still isn't, but that's the fault of the Israelites? not a lob at you, i just dont get the rationale.
i agree statehood carries responsibilities, and if given statehood gaza will fail to live up to them, and should israel respond they'd be condemned. israel response draws automatic condemnation due to a power imbalance. so we let arab states flood in enough weapons that the imbalance is closer?
there is imo only 1 solution, a DMZ like 1 mile wide border between the two. drop the blockade and let the gaza strip do what it always wanted to. fire rockets fruitlessly against the iron dome while its own people starve instead of feeding them. no one will build there or do business with them, but the blockade is a convenient excuse for their lack of prosperity. once it comes down then what? will people realize its a dead zone even without israeli "occupation"? of course not. it will be the american civil war all over. freeing the slaves wasn't enough, it didnt lead to prosperity. it led to economic stagnation. but the gazans have what the american slave population didnt, rich backers. shift the burden of gaza to iran and work on the west bank. split the palestinian cause in 2 and give the bleeding heart world what it wants, a free palestine, free to prosper or fail.
