I dont know about that. Germany during the Weimar Republic was basically a race between communists and fascists about who can seize power first. They didnt necessarily fight the nazis to defend democracy and the status quo, more because the nazis were their main rivals in the struggle for power.
Wiki says the 1930's anti-fa was comprised of several factions, including social-democrats and communists.

I understand that the communists might not have been de facto good guys, but I do hope that we can all agree that fighting 1930's fascism is inherently a good deed. After all, if the communists won it's very unlikely that would have caused as much suffering as the Nazis caused.
